How our guides and calculators get written, reviewed, and fixed.

Who writes this content

Project Budgeter is independently owned and operated. Guides, FAQs, and calculator copy are written and maintained by the site's editorial team — the site owner and any contributors working directly with them. We are not licensed contractors, architects, or engineers, and we don't present ourselves as such anywhere on this site. Where a guide covers a topic that requires professional judgment (structural work, electrical, plumbing code), we say so explicitly and point you toward getting a professional opinion.

How guides are researched

Cost figures and general claims (typical project scope, standard installation practices, common cost drivers) are based on publicly available industry information — trade association guidance, government sources like the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and general contractor cost-guide publications — cross-checked for consistency with the baseline figures in our calculators. We link to primary sources where a specific claim depends on one (for example, a state's building-code regulation). We do not fabricate statistics, studies, or quotes, and we do not cite a source for a number it doesn't actually support.

How calculators are reviewed

Calculator logic, base rates, and regional multipliers are documented in full on our Methodology page. They are configured values reviewed periodically by the site owner — not a live data feed, and not the output of a panel of contractors. We say this plainly because a budgeting tool is only useful if you know what its numbers actually represent.

How updates happen

Guides and calculator baselines are revisited periodically, not on a fixed daily or weekly schedule. When we materially change a base rate, multiplier, or a guide's factual claims, we update the page's content accordingly; blog posts show their original publish date in the byline.

How corrections are handled

If you spot an error — a wrong figure, an outdated regulation reference, a broken link — email us via the Contact page with the page URL and what looks wrong. We review correction requests and fix confirmed errors; we don't guarantee a specific turnaround time, since this is a small, independently run site.

Advertising and independence

This site is supported by display advertising (Google AdSense). We do not accept payment to feature a specific contractor, brand, or material, and we do not sell your contact information to contractor lead-generation networks. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies and third-party services are used on this site.
